Abstract

Portfolio and portfolio assessment in continuing education in intensive health care –an evaluation.

What is the effect of portfolio assessment on continuing education in intensive health care?

The course requirements stipulate that students have to work with a portfolio during their practical training. In this research the students and supervisor were interviewed about benefits of practical learning together with portfolio assessments.

The study showed that the use of portfolio assessments has a positive effect on learning and stimulates students to reflect over their work. Portfolios require students to reflect on the relationship between theoretical learning and practical experience.

One the other hand, students lose focus on practical training because they have to work with the portfolio at the same time. The students get worn out and the supervisors are not satisfied with the students’ work and the lack of focus on professional training.
